Doritos launched in the 1960s at Disneyland and changed American snacking forever when Frito-Lay introduced Nacho Cheese in 1974. Spicy Sweet Chili (9.3)
Great spice level that lingers in the mouth. Sweet chili flavor is really solid. Typical great Dorito crunch and size.
Late Night Loaded Taco (9.0)
Tastes exactly like biting into a Taco Bell taco. The cumin flavor dominates — in a good way.
Cool Ranch (8.9)
Ranch flavor rolls in immediately. Good crunch, one of the GOATs of American chips. Dominates in the single-chip test.
Blazin’ Buffalo & Ranch (8.7)
The rare good buffalo flavor chip. Tastes like biting into a buffalo wing dipped in ranch.
Japanese Nacho Cheese (8.7)
A less salty nacho cheese Doritos with a lighter dusting, good crunch, and a satisfying umami aftertaste. The Japanese version does something subtle that the American can’t quite match.
Flamin’ Hot Nacho (8.5)
A legitimately spicy chip — maybe spicier than any other Doritos I’ve had. Very good flavor. Classic Doritos shape, crunch, and texture, all of which they do very well.
Flamas (8.5)
Another very spicy chip that burns your mouth but is hard to stop eating. Nice lime kick keeps it interesting. Spice really lingers.
Taco Flavor (8.4)
A modified version of one of the OG Doritos flavors. Very good — same size, crunch, and form as all Doritos, with a flavor close to nacho but with more cumin and lime-like acidity.
Spicy Nacho (8.4)
Tastes pretty much exactly like Nacho Cheese with a slight spice kick at the very end. Not nearly as spicy as Flamin’ Hot but solid and reliable.
Golden Sriracha (8.4)
Good flavor with a tangy mild spice — almost like an orange chicken flavor — that subtly fades. Feels like it’s missing one more element, but overall a pretty good chip.
Nacho Cheese (8.3)
A classic. The texture on the chip’s surface is the star of the show. Flavor is pretty mild — kind of missing a punch.
Salsa Verde (7.7)
Salty and spicy in a slight burning way but no big overarching flavor like most Doritos. Pretty solid but could use more flavor presence.
Hot Mustard (7.7)
Pretty spot-on Chinese hot mustard flavor — a wasabi/horseradish thing that doesn’t go all the way to the nose. Delayed, with a somewhat sweet flavor hitting first. Enjoyable in a few bites, hard to commit to a full bag.
Collisions: Stranger Pizza & Cool Ranch (7.6)
Tastes like a really cheap, smoky pepperoni pizza with a kick of spice. Not terrible. Not really tasting the cool ranch either.
Tangy Ketchup (7.4)
Better than expected. Like a spicy ketchup flavor — think Sweet & Spicy Chili with a ketchup-y aftertaste that I don’t love.
Sweet & Tangy BBQ (7.3)
Very strong BBQ-flavored Doritos. A bit smoky and tangy. Too strong for me.
Mild Salt — Japan (7.3)
Tastes like a plain tortilla chip with a little salt — probably close to the original Doritos. Same Doritos shape and crunch. Pretty good but I prefer tortilla chips with a harder crunch.
Dinamita Chile Limón (7.2)
Very similar to Takis — same size and concept, maybe a harder crunch. Spicy chili paired with a nice acidic lime kick. Good for a small bag, too much flavor for anything bigger.
Incógnita — Mexico (7.1)
A smoky lime chili flavor — maybe the one Mexican Doritos flavor I don’t love. Not terrible, gets better as you go, but not my thing.
Tangy Pickle (7.1)
The more you eat, the less you taste the pickle — which is the best thing that could happen. Overwhelming at first, much more subtle toward the end of the bag. Still not really into it.
Twisted Lime (6.2)
One of the oddest Doritos I’ve had. Strong lime flavor is delayed and not sour at all. After the lime rolls back, a light spice kicks in. Almost tastes pickle-flavored. Not a fan.
Hot Spicy Flavor — China (5.9)
Classic Dorito shape with a Szechuan, pepper, oil taste and a mild yet lingering spice. Not my favorite flavor, and it kind of makes the Doritos format feel wasted.
